Two Post Falls women were arrested after police found several stolen checks and pieces of mail – including new credit cards and W-2 tax forms – in a Red Lion hotel room downtown.
Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office detectives responded to the hotel as part of a grand larceny and false investigation, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. Police found Victoria L. Bircher, 33, and Shawndia F. Kinsey, 32, at the hotel.
During a search of the room, detectives found 65 checks from personal, business and government accounts, along with two or more checkbooks. again, police said. They also found evidence of more than 40 different victims of mail theft, including about 10 new credit cards in the victims’ names and 19 W-2 statements.
Also found in the room are suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Bircher was arrested on suspicion of grand theft and fraud, while Kinsey was arrested on suspicion of grand theft and possession of a controlled substance, according to the release.
Law enforcement officials will contact victims when their mail or checks are recovered, the sheriff’s office said.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may apply. Detectives are contacting the law enforcement branch of the US Postal Service.
Kinsey and Bircher were booked into the Kootenai County Jail on Wednesday and remained there Thursday night, according to jail records. Kinsey’s bond is $20,000 and Bircher’s bond is $50,000.
