Saint John’s University Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science (GSRM)part of The Peter J. Tobin College of Business, hosted its 27th Annual Insurance Leader of the Year (ILOTY) Awards Dinner on January 18, raising a total of $4,210,500 to fund student scholarships and support programs education. The ceremony was held at New York Marriott Marquis in Manhattan, drew a crowd of nearly 1,600 members of the insurance industry worldwide, senior leader from the University, students, faculty, business administration, government, family, and friends.
The historic celebration for the insurance industry and the supporters of the University was honored Alan D. SchnitzerChairman and Chief Executive Officer, Travel Companies, Inc.as the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science’s β2022 Insurance Leader of the Year.β
The award, presented annually since 1995, recognizes outstanding leadership in the insurance and financial services industry around the world. it sets them apart from their peers.
In a heartfelt acceptance speech, Schnitzer concluded, “It is my hope that one day in the future, someone who has received the kindness that we have seen here tonight will be on this distinguished platform. . They will be able to talk about their work to bring people together, face risks, and overcome challenges. And they will be able to say: ‘Someone saw a future for me that I couldn’t. see fully for myself.’ What a fitting tribute it will be to our business, your kindness, and the promise of partnership.β
During his acceptance speech, Mr. Schnitzer surprised the audience by announcing the creation of the Travelers Scholarship for Future Leaders with a pledge gift of $250,000. The scholarship fund provides annual scholarships to GSRM students who have financial need and have demonstrated leadership potential.

Mingling with the large crowd of insurance industry leaders who are now GSRM students, they were able to network with them during the cocktail reception and inside the recreation room.
Aaron Mann, a graduate student and player on the St. John, who moved from Little Rock, Arkansas, to New York City to pursue an MS in Enterprise Risk Management at GSRM, shared, βIt’s inspiring to see so many. people from the insurance industry are concerned about St. John’s and want to come and help students like me.”
The Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science was founded in 1901 as the Insurance Society of New York and over the years evolved into the College of Insurance (TCI). In June of 2001, TCI merged with the University of St.
