The State’s Attorney filed charges for the Galesburg arson last August

KNOX COUNTY, Ill (WMBD) — Two men are charged with 10 counts of arson last summer that destroyed a garage and nine cars in apartment in Galesburg.

On Friday, Knox County State’s Attorney Jeremy S. Karlin filed criminal charges against Nathan Cantu and Rey Cantu for their roles in the Aug. 21 arson of a Springer apartment building. Road. The Cantus, who were 18 and 19 years old at the time, were charged with 10 counts of arson as a result of vandalism.

A criminal information is the same as a criminal charge; however, the vote of a chief justice is not required.

Nathan and Rey Cantu were arrested on August 22, 2023 when local law enforcement executed warrants in Wataga, IL, where both defendants lived. Cantus is pending charges of discharging a firearm, fleeing and eluding, and criminal damage to property.

The trial for the pending cases will begin in February.
