The Sarasota attorney becomes the first woman to lead Shumaker

Jennifer B. Compton will be the first woman to lead the Shumaker law firmis a national company with offices in Florida, Ohio, North Carolina and South Carolina, according to the company.

Shumaker promoted the Sarasota attorney to Chairman of its Board of Directors. Jaime Austrich was named Vice Chairman.

Prior to his promotion, Compton served as Vice Chairman for two years. He was also the managing partner of the Sarasota office.

He has been working in labor law and litigation for over 25 years.

“It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to use my years of experience to give back to our Shumaker teams across the country,” said Compton. “Although I may be the first woman to serve in this position, I will certainly not be the last. Whenever a woman pushes the boundaries, it’s sure to follow, and I’m humbled to be a part of that legacy.”

Compton’s work reaches beyond Shumaker into the community. He is a founding member of the Sarasota Bayfront Planning Organization and chairs the Bay Park Conservancy Board, helping to create a 54-acre world-class park on the Sarasota Bayfront. .

Compton is also the founding director and Vice Chairman of Gulfside Bank, Sarasota’s only community bank.

“Jennie is a true pioneer, both at work and in the community, and I am happy to serve with her as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors,” said Austrich. “Together, we will implement Shumaker’s strategic priorities, including our plan for long-term growth and improve customer service in the process.”

Austrich previously served as chairman of Shumaker’s Tampa litigation department for more than a decade before being elected to the firm’s Board of Directors, where he is serving his second year.

The Board of Directors governs Shumaker’s company and is comprised of seven partners and the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer.

Shumaker was founded in 1925 and currently employs a team of more than 300 attorneys and consultants. The firm provides legal and regulatory solutions and aims to make a positive and impactful difference for clients and communities. e.
