The lawyer in the wrongful death suit against the EMS workers responds to the first hearing

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) Attorney Ben Crump and attorney Bob Hilliard of Hilliard Martinez Gonzales issued a statement after presenting evidence at the preliminary hearing on Friday including the LifeStar EMS personnel his actions caused the death of Earl Moore Jr.

In a statement, the attorney shared:

“During a medical emergency, Moore was forced face down on a hospital stretcher. The video shows LifeStar employees Peggy Finley and Peter Cadigan strapping Moore face down. down on the counter, and it says the straps are very tight. Yesterday, the family’s attorney announced a lawsuit naming LifeStar EMS and its employees Peggy Finley and Peter Cadigan as defendants. , Finley and Cadigan are charged with first degree murder.

Critical evidence presented includes:

  • A call was recorded in the van where the female EMT (Finley) said, “I’m not messing with his vitals.
  • A pathologist testified that Moore’s broken ribs were caused by excessive force, not CPR.
  • Training records obtained from May and June 2022 show that all EMS techs were trained not to put anyone in a dangerous situation.

Attorneys Crump and Hilliard issued the following statement:

These new facts, while troubling, are consistent with the behavior seen in the video – which resulted in Earl’s wrongful death that night.

“Had Earl’s organs been checked during his transport to the hospital, as usual medical treatment, it would have been immediately known that he was in a dangerous situation and his life was in danger, because of the bandage stuck down on the keel. Instead, this man, a loving son and brother, was compared to an animal and allowed to slowly and painfully breathe in an ambulance filled with all the medical equipment needed to save the yes.”
