EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WAND) – The first legal battle in efforts to defeat Illinois’ ban on the sale of automatic weapons is being fought in Effingham.
Attorney Tom DeVore is seeking an injunction to block the ban. He represents 862 private individuals with federal procurement.
DeVore argued before the judge that the ban violates equal protection provisions under the law. One of the examples under the new law is that the military is exempt from the pre-retirement ban.
“All we’re asking him to do in the interim is treat our customers the same as the thousands of citizens who are exempt from this law,” DeVore said. .
An Effingham County judge announced that he will rule on the request before the close of business on Friday, January 20, 2023.
