On Friday, officials and local partners announced the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the provision of tax relief for people with low incomes.

The EITC is a tax refund for income-eligible households. Officials gathered at the Lakeforest Mall at the Equity Center, a program of Cross Community Church in Gaithersburg.
According to the districtThose who earned less than $60,000 in 2022 may qualify for the federal, Maryland, and provincial EITC. The maximum federal debt is $6,935.
Speakers emphasized the EITC as “a unique tool to fight poverty.” They said Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is available free of charge to people who qualify for Montgomery County income tax.
There are approximately 20 VITA sites in Montgomery County. Residents can see how to make a free tax payment through the program here.
