RIDGELAND, Miss. (WDAM/ Gray News) – The district attorney for the Wayne County Board of Supervisors, was present at the time an impromptu meeting Thursday afternoon, was arrested later that night on an outstanding warrant for conspiracy.
According to Assistant Chief Tony Willridge with the Ridgeland Police Department, members of the US Marshals Task Force arrested 40-year-old Cooper M. Leggett around 11 pm on Thursday. at his home in Wayne County.
Leggett was booked into the Madison County Jail. He has been charged with one count of conspiracy.
Willridge said the arrest was related to a robbery investigation involving former Ole Miss football and NFL player Jerrell Powe. However, he could not reveal Leggett’s relationship with Powe or Gavin Bates, who were also detained together in the case.
The deputy was also unable to reveal what this conspiracy charge meant.
Leggett was expected to make his initial appearance in Ridgeland Municipal Court sometime on Friday.
The court said that $20,000 has been set by Leggett’s court.
