Shumaker’s Board of Directors voted to promote Compton to the chair and Jaime Austrich to vice president.

Prior to becoming chairman, Compton served as vice chairman of the Board of Directors for the past two years, as well as serving as Sarasota Office management style.

For more than 25 years, he has focused his work on employment law and litigation.

“It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to use my years of experience to give back to our Shumaker teams across the country,” Compton said, in a statement. “Although I may be the first woman to serve in this position, I certainly won’t be the last. Whenever a woman pushes the boundaries, there will surely be more to follow and I am humbled to be a part of that legacy.

Compton is also a founding member of the Sarasota Bayfront Planning Association and chairman of the Bay Park Conservancy Board.

Shumaker is led by the Board of Directors, which includes seven partners, as well as the chief operating officer and chief financial officer.
