It Is Vital To Master SEO

When I built my very first website I little dreamed that I would one day know more about SEO than I did about the product that I was promoting on my website.

I currently have quite a number of websites, but that first one still holds a top spot on page one google for all of my important key phrases and it is in a highly competitive topic area. In fact I took a screen shot of it a few weeks back on a Sunday morning and it was No1 page 1 out of an estimated 93,400,000 possible websites. Not bad for someone who, ten years ago, could not even switch on a PC, let alone use one.

At or just after the turn of the century (Y2K as it is now lovingly known) I decided it was time to improve my PC skills. My wife was already streets ahead of me in PC skills because she could already turn on the PC and send an email. I did not even have an email account.

In fact it was this lack of email that really brought me into this business. I felt a little deprived that my wife had email account and I did not, so I got her to show me how to set one up (it all seemed so complex to me back then) and since I did not know anyone with an email – other than my wife, that was that.

Every day I checked my inbox, but guess what? Nothing was in there. Then one day it just happened. It was something that was going to change my entire life forever.

I received an invitation to make $1000s per week without doing anything. Well almost without doing anything! All I had to do was to pay $49 per month and the system would recruit people for me. As soon as I had recruited 2 other people my $49 a month was paid for me. But better still, the system would go on recruiting people for me and then it would send me some money.

Well!! This was obviously too good an opportunity to miss so I paid my $49 straight away. (well – not quite straight away because I had to open something called a PayPal account first. I had never heard of such a thing, but it seemed that everyone who was anyone had a PayPal account).

While I was waiting for my new Pay Pal account to be opened (you had to make a payment on your credit card and then get the reference code from your credit card statement and then enter that reference into your PayPal account to authorise the account), the automatic money making system kept emailing me telling me that more and more members had joined under me and as soon as I became a “Paid Up” member the money would start to flood in. I just could not wait.

In the meantime, I was excitedly telling my colleagues at work about this and to my surprise, not only were they not very interested in this wonderful opportunity to “fire the boss”, but they seemed to think that it was just a con to part me from $49 a month.

A lot of time has passed since then, and I am a much wiser person. I really do know how to make money online and it isn’t by paying anyone $49 a month and doing nothing.

The surprising thing though, is that there are still a lot of new people entering this strange world of internet marketing and they are all too often getting caught up in the promise of a small monthly payment and do nothing to receive $1000s in return.

In my case, the fact that I had been so easily conned out of money, coupled with the fact that I would now have to face all of the “I told you so” chidings from my work colleagues somehow stirred a determination in me to learn everything necessary to make my fortune online.

Today I work from home as I have now for some years, and it is all thanks to that very early request for $49, so it was in point of fact one of the very best $49 that I have ever spent.

Before I close this article, I feel compelled to offer some free advice to those of you who are struggling to make some money while working on the net.

Understand that there is no such thing as a free lunch. If something says it is free, then it asks for money…No matter how small an amount, then IT IS NOT FREE! Most things of value have a cost but not all costly things have a value. Spend your money wisely. There are far too many sharks (some say Gurus) out there who seem to have all of the answers – For a Price.

Learn to do your own SEO. Do not leave this vitally important task to anyone else. Spend time and energy on building relevant one back links. Getting your website onto page one of the major search engines should not be your top priority, it should be YOUR ONLY PRIORITY.
